Homemade Vanilla Extract

Happy Monday!  I can’t believe it’s already December and Christmas is less than 3 weeks away!  With a little baby around the house, time really does fly.  Now that Christmas is almost here were in full swing of Christmas decorating and shopping.  The house is completely decorated and the tree and lights are up.  And believe or not we are actually almost done with all of our shopping.

One thing I want to make a tradition is to give some type of homemade gift every year.  Last year I made Homemade Vanilla Extract and this year I don’t quite know what I want to make.  Any ideas?
I never thought about making Vanilla Extract until I saw it on one of my favorite blogs.  It turns out that  it’s super easy and takes minutes to make.  All you do is place 2 vanilla beans inside of an 8-ounce bottle.  Then you fill the bottle with vodka (any brand of vodka will do – No need to use an expensive brand) and tightly seal/cap the bottles.  Place the bottles in a cool, dark place (maybe the back of a kitchen cupboard or closet) and let them sit for about 2 months.  Now how easy is that!
Attach a tag with directions on how to make their own vanilla extract and you’ve got the perfect homemade gift for your family and friends!  Enjoy :).

Homemade Vanilla Extract
Makes: 1 bottle
1 8-ounce bottle
8 ounces Vodka
2 Vanilla Bean Pods
Place the vanilla bean pods inside of the bottle.  Pour the vodka inside the bottle and tightly seal.  Place the bottle in a cool, dark spot (such as the back of a kitchen cupboard or closet).  Let sit for 2 months, shaking occasionally.  Enjoy!

    Hi Krissy!  I hope you’ve been doing well with the little one. 🙂 Averie recently posted homemade vanilla extract and you girls both have me so intrigued. I must must must try making my own one time.  I mean how could I not?  It’s so simple and so much cheaper in the long haul. Yum!

    Great post!  I make my own vanilla extract as well after some research online.  It is just too simple, and the flavor is much better, not to mention less expensive than the typical national brand found at the supermarket.

    I’m making a trio of sauces for my Mom to give to her friends- salted caramel, marshmallow, and hot fudge.  Maybe something like that?

    Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something.
    I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is excellent blog.

    A very long time!  I made some last year and am still using it today.
