Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Waffles

June 12, 2012
I love thinning the line between breakfast and dessert.  Creating breakfast recipes that are suitable for dessert, and visa versa, is something I really enjoy.  The most expectant breakfast-dessert item is doughnuts.  But that doesn’t mean you can’t have pancakes or waffles for dessert as well.  So, I created Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Waffles for either your breakfast or your dessert.
The base of these waffles is a creamy peanut butter batter.  I folded some chopped   peanut butter cups right into the batter and then baked the waffles in my basic waffle maker.  Some of the chocolate in the peanut butter cups melted while baking, which gave both a peanut butter and chocolate flavor in each bite.  To top off the chocolate flavor, I made a quick chocolate ganache and poured it over the waffles.  And then, of course, finished the waffles with more chopped peanut butter cups.
These breakfast-dessert waffles are delicious and satisfying in every single way.  They’re chocolaty and sweet, but not too overwhelming for a breakfast item.

Oh Krissy I’m sad you didn’t end up making it to BlogHer Food but I’m absolutely thrilled with these waffles.  Dessert for breakfast sounds ideal to me in so many ways.

that’s funny you posted this up today because, for some reason, I woke up really wanting waffles or a stack of pancakes for breakfast. I ended up having a protein shake and black coffee. Needless to say, my sweet tooth was not satisfied.

These waffles look absolutely amazing. They have left me dreaming about Reese’s peanut butter pancakes. Hopefully one day I will try them out, but Reese’s peanut butter cups are extra expensive in Australia.

I’m all about breakfast that could almost be dessert, and even I think these look absolutely decadent. Over the top decadent, but in a totally delicious way! I think this is one of those things that I’d get criticized for eating as breakfast (but between you and me, I could probably handle it!)

These look really great– I saw them pinned on pinterest and clicked over. Just wondering why you chose olive oil instead of butter?
